From the past couple of years or so, the winter season in the UAE brings about waves of extreme weather conditions that have caused many emergencies, and serious traffic congestions and problems all across the country.  The dense fog after an occasional rain is unceasingly affecting the majority of areas across the country, especially outside the urban belts, roads or highways and these trends are expected to last for at least a month. So, unfavorable driving conditions or driving during fog can land you in a serious trouble as it reduces visibility and prevents you driving routinely.

Although people say that the securest way to drive during fog in the UAE is not to drive at all. However, for motorists or travelers who have important tasks to conclude during fog, it is important for them to learn the top tips for driving safely in the UAE during fog prior to instigating the journey.

First Thing First—Only Drive If You Have To

Driving during fog is certainly challenging no matter how pro you consider yourself at driving. Since nothing is more precious than your life, you must try your level best to wait until the fog clears. Even if you have to hit the road during fog in the UAE in emergencies, it is ideal to keep your car tuned to local radio channel for live updates about both weather and traffic. Setting off without knowing the weather condition is a dangerous thing to do that must be avoided no matter what.

Drive Slowly

It is irresponsible to drive at the same speed as you usually do. In foggy weather conditions, you must keep your car’s speed minimum in order to avoid risks and dangers. Plus, drive in the middle lane of the road, avoid overtaking or sudden lane changing and keep a sensible distance from the car going in front of you.

Use Fog Lights

Not all vehicles have fog lights on the front or back of the car. If you don’t have those then get them fitted since the law requires it. The fog lights work better in extreme conditions than normal lights, especially during the fog because the beam of the light (flat pattern and wide) illuminates the sides of the roadway.

Do Not Listen To Loud Music

This might be surprising for you to read but yes do not listen to loud music while driving in fog in the UAE or foggy weather conditions. Why? Because you will not be able to see warning signs placed on the roads/sideways by the local authorities or someone signaling you to stop or hear a car close to you, which you can’t see.

Extra Tip—Stop At The Nearest Gas Station, If Fog Gets Denser

If you can’t see anything anymore, make a stop at the nearest gas station and wait until the fog clears. It is too risky to continue driving on highways or even in the inner city under such foggy weather conditions.
